“Where can I watch Premier League football in the city?”

Quite possibly a prophetic positioning of how these teams might end up in the top 5 come the end of the season.

If you’re anything like me, you usually end up organising where to watch the match at the very last minute. At this point you’re left wondering “where will be showing the match?’ - and are left scratching your bonce.

Worry ye not, as here at BRITlist we have a lovely little rundown of places within Melbourne CBD where you can watch Premier League football - or ‘the EPL’ if you’re Aussie/overly influenced by American culture.

Without further ado, here’s the pick of the places to get a pint and watch a Premier League pitch battle.

The Imperial - Bourke Street

The Imperial on Bourke Street for Premier League football

Let’s kick things off with what many see as the Grand Daddy of football watching venues. Right at the top of town, The Imperial definitely provides that British pub feel while also bringing the best of Aussie with a classic rooftop bar. Splendid!

The beauty of The Imperial is that it stays open later than a Geoff Hurst hat-trick goal, on Friday and Saturday evenings. Usually until 2am. This means you may be able to squeeze one or two matches in - depending on the time of year/time difference,

CQ Bar - Queen Street

Part sports bar, part bar, part restaurant, part nightclub, CQ Bar is a pretty unique proposition. What we do know for sure is that they show Premier League football every Saturday night - and are open until at least 3am.

Yours truly watched the borefest that was the Europa League final here earlier in the year. While the match was about as fun as a rainy day in Rochdale, the venue itself was very impressive. Plenty of TV’s to watch the footy on as well as one gigantic screen which you cannot miss.

The Duke of Wellington - Flinders Street

One of the, if not THE oldest pub in Melbourne, The Duke is similar to The Imperial in that it retains a British feel while also accomodating a rooftop bar.

While The Imperial is right and the top of the CBD grid, The Duke is right at the bottom - so it’s relatively close to Flinders Street station. Open ‘til 1am on Saturday nights means it’s more suited to matches earlier in the season - before the clocks change.

Turf Sports Bar - Queen Street

Turf Bar for Premier League football

You may just be able to sneak in one last match at the iconic Turf Bar before it closes its doors for good at the end of the year. It’s such a shame this place is closing down as it’s always been loved for being a consistent provider of live sports as well as some cracking food deals.

If you’ve never been here before then definitely make time for a visit - even if it’s not for a football match. The place has a real speakeasy feel to it and you’re sure to meet a Brit or two in there.

Hickens Hotel - Russell Street

Hickens Hotel for Premier League football

Previously The Crafty Squire, this pub reopened as Hickens Hotel earlier in 2025 following a $12m facelift. Another entertainment behemoth with four floors including a rooftop bar, Hickens Hotel is sure to become a favourite with football fans.

Unlike most of the other places in this list, Hickens Hotel is open late every single night of the week. Open until at least 1am every night with extended hours to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.

388 Sports Bar - Lonsdale Street

Right smack bang in the centre of Melbourne CBD, 388 Sports bar has consistent opening and closing times. Early opening at 10am through to 1am each and every day.

388 seems to be quite the cult favourite with its much-loved toasties and pies. Judging by the Google reviews, the staff here are top notch and have a great sense of humour!

Kicks - Elizabeth Street

Kicks sports bar for Premier League football

A sports bar with a contemporary, edgy feel that has the vibe of a downtown New York hang-out. Located on the second floor of the Light House building, this trendy hub has plenty to keep you occupied if the match turns out to be a dour affair. Retro gaming, pool and the classic football table (no spinning!) can keep you entertained.

Amazingly, Kicks is open until 3am every night and 4am on Saturday nights. So if you’re struggling to find a place still open for a later kick-off, you can bet Kicks will have you covered.

The Charles Dickens Tavern - Collins Street

Located downstairs in the Block Arcade on Collins Street, The Charles Dickens Tavern is as British-themed as you might expect.

While they officially open until 1am on Saturday night, they can open early or later for matches at prior arrangement. Predictably, this is a very popular drinking spot with British ex-pats.

Melbourne Central Lion Hotel - La Trobe Street

Melbourne Central Lion Hotel Premier League football

As the name suggests, this venue is located within Melbourne Central shopping centre and is a wonderful respite for weary shoppers.

Laden with tables, screens and pool tables aplenty, you’re always guaranteed a good view of the action - no matter where you’re sat. The big bonus is that this place is open until 3am - every single night!

The King Hotel - King Street

The King Hotel Premier League football

Finally we have the self-described ‘home of sport in the CBD’ - The King Hotel on King Street. A multi-screened, value-for-money sports bar ideally located just a stroll away from Southern Cross train station.

Open from 11am each and every day, Friday and Saturday sees The King Hotel extend its opening hours to 1am rather than its usual midnight (or 11am on Sunday).
